After listening to a few head-scratching "radical" unschooling podcasts where the parents allow the kids to be on screens all day every day with no limits and see no problem with this (in fact, they heralded their kids' tech obsessions) I was starting to become very disillusioned with the unschooling model. But then I read Ben's book Home Grown, and realized that there are other like-minded unschooling parents out there who do believe in unfettered, free-range learning that embraces nature and natural rhythms. Nature is not optional i nmy opinion. That's why I have distanced myself from the term unschooling recently in favor of my own term- Nature and Community Based Immersion (NCBE for short :)

Re:

This was an extra good episode. Love this show so much! Thanks for getting these amazing discussions out there. After this conversation I literally walked out to my backyard, harvested a bunch of green black walnuts off the tree back there, washed them, and put them in a jar to tincture up. I think candida is behind a lot of my sneaky little issues right now and then moon cycle bit was mind blowing as my cravings, binging, and depression all seem to peak with the full moon.

I am looking for more information on nature immersion and parasympathetic activation. The bed cost how much?! - Claus Pummer #84

Hey Daniel!
Thank you for the awesome info and inspiration! I had a chance to meet with Claus and Denise directly and try out the Samina bed while they were in San Francisco. (It's not that far from where I live in Lake Tahoe/Truckee, CA.) I bought the grounding pads first and my husband and I noticed an immediate difference with our sleep and dream state. These are really worth the cost because they last a LIFETIME so we will never have to replace.

I felt that we would never be able to afford the Samina bed entirely - but I figured we would try to save for it anyway. After months of dealing with extreme back pain and lower disc bulge myself - my husband slipped a disc upon waking up and trying to put on his shoes. We are only 29 and very physically active, healthy and body-aware-people, so I felt it had to have been our bed. We instantly got rid of our old bed and started sleeping on the floor, which helped a little, but we would still wake up stiff in the mornings.

After much contemplation, we finally bought a Samina BED! Luckily having a partner to split the cost helps tremendously. No tax and no shipping because we picked it up in LA. We opted out of the expensive bed frames and built our own. Overall - the bed cost is jaw dropping, and most of my friends and family laugh because it seems so ridiculous to them.

After reading the discussion below - I must admit I feel where everyone is coming from about the cost. It is outrageous. Completely un-heard of and I truly wish it was more affordable. We spent our entire savings. But money comes and goes, we only get one body, one spine.... it is the best investment we have made for our health. We no longer have back pain! We have un-interrupted deep sleep. It is the most amazing asset to our lives. We are truly happier people because our sleep is so good. ... AND the bed lasts for 25+ years! No other bed I have found is rated for that lifespan. It hosts no dust mites. It does not outgas. It feels like sleeping on a cloud.

It is truly worth it. Every penny.

I would LOVE your advice on sheets! Do you have any recommendations?

Re:

I agree that ancestral healing is a very vital part of what we hand on to the next generation and how we move forwards. I also find it takes a negative slant on the issue. USA citizens tracing their roots are usually welcomed by Europeans, no?
Pursuing an interest in other cultures which still have a living heritage of connection to nature and ancestry, can promote a recognition of our own culture - though this is the pivotal point - do we take the influence to throw light on where our own culture and personnel ancestry needs healing or do we try to consume a foreign culture to pay for a sense of belonging. I see both happening. Anyone genuinely following a spiritual path eventually discovers the value of nothing.
Also, I feel that we are creating new multi cultures, and just because these are new, does not mean they have no value or cannot have genuine belonging. I just think that as well as this, we need to not use it to avoid facing our own ancestral past, as that will come back to visit us & future generations in some way.
I agree that we need to interfere less with indigenous cultures to allow their traditions to survive and to learn most from them. We are in danger of destroying what inspires us in indigenous cultures, b seeking to get a part of it.

If we keep future generations in our minds eye and let this inspire how we should live now... we move towards a more sane and connected culture.

Re:

Vast amounts of the plant crops produced from these rapacious practises goes towards the undernourishment of those factory farmed animals. Of course it's bad. It's bad because it is a blatant abuse of living in balance with the ecosystem. The argument about "biotic cleansing" would make sense if you viewed it from this angle. But this isn't even acknowledged as a reason for why we have come to where we are now. Instead, the effects of this devastation is used as fodder for her argument against veganism. If you go organic, you already knock out this exploitative approach to the land. Of course the soil is depleted if you overuse it (especially if you treat like a Petri dish and poison it with artificial chemicals). That's why farmers in the good old days used to allow plots to cycle between active and inactive states (allowing fields to go fallow), so the soil could replenish itself naturally. There is no reason we can't continue to have a civilisation based upon farming in this way. If we were more reasonable in our approach and less rapacious towards the land, there is no reason why we can't come to a compromise with planet Earth. Technology IS still the key to unlock a more sustainable way of life. We must balance it with better management of our own expectations for life on Earth.

Re: Demineralized Water? That is not safe to drink nor is it anyway more nutritious than pasteurized milk. Also the flaw with your reasoning about the SAD diet is that you assume that our bodies are stuck in the ice age. In reality we have evolved and adapted to different foods. During the early days of farming, we have learned to domesticate wild ungulates to produce milk, wool, and meat. People from cultures that heavily relied on milk can do so because of a mutation that allows them to consume lactose even after weaning. We have taken wild plants and domesticated them into corn and other crops. All of this happened before civilization. Our bodies adapted to it.

Re:
